Practically everyone knows someone who has suffered with breast cancer.  Over 1/3 of invasive cancers that women are affected by is breast cancer.  Fortunately with the help of the Susan G. Komen foundation along with many others, more and more women are now receiving annual mammograms to help with early detection and more aware of symptoms. 

Many of us think of the symptoms as simply a lump...but that is only one of the early symptoms.  Others include: swelling in the armpit, pain or tenderness of the breast, flattening or indentation of the breast, marble like area under the skin, discharge or blood from the nipples, along with any other noticeable change in contour, size, color of any portion of the breast.  This is one of the reasons why monthly self breast examinations are so very important to help aid in early detection.  I, myself..am completely guilty of not performing a monthly examination, but am making it a priority to take the time out to do so.  That few minutes could save my life...and yours too if you're also guilty. 

Something I was only recently made aware of, is that your diet can help prevent your risk of breast cancer.  Many medical professionals are recognizing that being physically active, combined with healthy weight management, a low-fat diet high in vegetables, fruits, fiber and low in red meat intake are all key components to reducing your risk.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so don't forget to schedule your annual mammogram if you haven't already.  I am having my very first mammogram later this month at age 35...wish me luck!  I have to say I am a bit apprehensive about it, but it's something we all need to do. 

Staying healthy is a vital point of feeling and looking beautiful....so don't forget to take that extra time to take care of yourself.  I know it can be so easy to postpone annuals and other things we all need to do,  simply because life gets so busy.  But remember....just look into your favorite person's eyes....your baby girl, boy, hubby, daddy, mommy....and remember that you need to do these things to stay healthy and live a long, happy life with those we love.

My heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones due to breast cancer and my absolute respect and praise goes out to those who have so bravely survived.
