• Salicylic Acid: Cosmetically used in some chemical peels and to reduce oiliness, acne and photo-aging. Salicylic acid works by softening keratin, a protein that forms part of the skin structure. This helps to loosen dry scaly skin, making it easier to remove. When salicylic acid is used in combination with other ingredients, it takes off the upper layer of skin allowing the additional medicines to penetrate more effectively. In acne, salicylic acid helps slow down shedding of the cells inside the follicles, preventing clogging. Salicylic acid also helps break down blackheads and whiteheads.
• Tea Tree Oil: Known for its antiseptic and tissue-healing properties. vIt promotes strong healing for the relief of symptoms such as acne and other skin infections. From the Australian tea tree, melaleuca alternifolia. Germicide, fungicide and antiseptic.
• Lactic Acid: An alpha hydroxy acid that diminishes the cohesion of surface skin cells and subsequently, prevents the thickening of the stratum corneum. Lactic acid is absorbed across the stratum corneum so the lower layers of this section of the epidermis, and assists in cell detachment from that level. The resulting smoothness and flexibility of the skin's surface is evident soon after application. It has a larger molecular size than glycolic acid and is absorbed more gradually across the epidermis with less irritation.
• Glycolic Acid: An alpha hydroxyl acid helpful for acne-prone skin, resolves dry skin conditions; used in chemical peels as well as to help reduce the appearance of pores and wrinkles. It removes thin lesions on the surface of the skin, reducing pigment and surface dryness.
